Preparing for Installation

On the day of the installation, we request one homeowner to be home to answer questions and to oversee the beginning process as the installation crew works. It is helpful to conduct a walkthrough of the area with the installers, while discussing floor removal and any subfloor requirements. Since tile requires special preparation of the subfloor, our installers will want to ensure that the subfloor is completely clean and flat. We may also need to fix a water-resistant backer board to the subfloor.

After the subfloor preparation is complete, the tile layout will be determined. Using chalk lines as a guide, the installers will spread thin-set mortar and place the tiles. Spacers will be used to make sure the tiles are evenly placed. Then, the grout is applied.

Once the installation is complete, we recommend that you wait at least 48 hours before walking on your new flooring. This allows time for the grout to set completely. During this time, do not allow the tile to get wet.

Tile Care & Maintenance

Because of how durable and easy it is to clean, tile is a popular flooring option in homes and in commercial environments. In order to keep your tile floors looking their best, consider incorporating a minimal amount of care and maintenance in your routine. Visit https://shawfloors.com/care for more information.

Daily Care & Maintenance

Loved for its simplicity, tile does not need a lot of care. However, you should still vacuum, sweep, and mop your flooring as needed to keep it looking new and polished. Also, you may want to have your flooring steam cleaned.

Dealing With Spills

When dealing with common spills, such as wine or pet accidents, you will want to wipe them away immediately or wet mop your floor. Since tile can get very slippery when wet, make sure you dry your floor right away. With tougher stains, refer to our cleaning guidelines.

When using cleaning products on your tile floor, make sure they do not contain acid, vinegar, chlorine, or ammonia. These chemicals can damage or discolor the grout, as well as, the tile’s surface.

What our customers are saying

We were very impressed with Heartland Custom Flooring! They did not carry what we wanted to use for our front porch. So they researched and found exactly what we wanted! It is a beautiful tile that looks just like hardwood. They delivered it right to our home! Mike and I really love our new front porch! Thanks again, Rob and Joan!
